Beartooth and Chief Joseph
Plan to leave Sturgis and head that way in August. Kicked myself last year for riding that far and not going to Yellowstone. Looks like i would cross the Bighorns on Hwy 14.
Hey Nellie you can do Cody to Belfry, then to Red Lodge and back over the pass to Chief Joesph. Then you can go back to Yellowstone's North East entrance and then to the East east entrance and back to Cody easily in a day? I also like the idea of crossing the Bighorns going one way and back over a different way.
Thanks jb for the Cooke City recommenadations.
Rodeo would be cool.
If anyone else that has any other recomendations for places to stay, eat or must do or see things wold be appreciated.

If you have the time I would recommend making a loop trip to Teton N.P. Take 191 S. out of Yellowstone to Moran then down to Moose. Head back up on Teton Park Rd. past Jenny Lake. I was in the area 2 yrs. ago & wished I would of spent more time there. I think the Tetons are the most spectacular mountains I ever seen. I'll get my second chance this July on a trip to Glacier then Yellowstone then Teton. Have fun,be safe.
Thanks tourman. I want to make the trip to Jackson and will try to take the Lake route. I have so far trimmed my trip to two weeks so some friends might go. If they don't I will go back to my oririnal plans and do Glacier as well.
In the area we are discussing, it is very easy to spend all day in the saddle and not travel very many miles. There is so much of beauty to see and so much of interest. You never know if you will make it back this far, so enjoy and take it in. It could be your first trip and it also could be your last, so drink it in.
Red Lodge is a good overnight stay, and be sure to stop at Red Lodge Pizza. We rode from Red Lodge over the Beartooth Highway to Yellowstone, stops at Old Faithful and Sulpher Springs, Grand Teton National Park, a National Elk Refuge, and stopped for the night in Jackson Hole, WY.
I've done Beartooth Pass and the Chief Joseph three times and it's more beautiful eavery time I see it.
In 2010, the wife and I trailered out to Billings, MT with another couple and from there we toured through Glacier Nat'l Park, and from there we went to Yellowstone Nat'l Park (and Jackson Hole, WY) and then on to Cody, WY and eventually back to Billings, MT via the Beartooth Pass and the Chief George Hwy.
Cody is a neat town and they have a GREAT gun museum there.
(Takes a whole day to really check it out and don't take any women with you!).
