Default Beartooth and Chief Joseph

Looking for reccomendations for day ride to include Beartooth and Chief Joseph Highway. Would like to fill the whole day riding. Any recommenations for campsites, motels, places to eat, things to see, etc. Any help would be appreciated. I don' have to return to the same place that night. I will probably spend my first night in the area at Cody. I don't want to go that far and not ride those two.

Go North out of Cody to Belfry. Then to Red Lodge and back over the pass to Chief Joesph. Then you can go back to Cosy or to Yellowstone's North East entrance and then to the East east entrance and back to Cody. Cody is a great place to use as a "home base". We went over the Big Horns at Buffalo and on the way back we took the Shell Canyon to Sheridan. You will not have any problems finding great rides out in that area.
You can even make a side trip into Montana to the Little Big Horn battlefield. Have fun.

Check out The Beartooth Rally if it's going on when you go. If it is, expect more traffic on the Beartooth Pass.

While staying in Cody be sure to catch the rodeo. Those bull riders are ten times tougher than any candyass NFL player. Think about it. Going one on one with 2,000 pounds of pissed off bull. I've never seen anyone get so hurt, so fast, and more or less live to tell about it. The Romans and their lions had nothing on the Cody rodeo.

Nellybelle was spot on for rides in the area. But when were you planning on going? We went through in August and Beartooth Pass still had snow everywhere and cold!

Don't worry about the weather on Beartooth. We crossed it in July and it only snowed a little, but none stuck to the roads. Red Lodge was an interesting town.

I used to live in Billings and would either stay in Red Lodge or Cooke City when I would head up to do that loop.

Whether you start in Billings, Red Lodge, Cody or another town, make certain you ride the Beartooth, the Chief Joseph and by all means the Big Horns. They are impressive. I have not been up there since 2010, it is a great technical riding area and the landscape is impressive
