If you mean the device that attaches to the bumper of a truck and just holds the front wheel in a cradle then I have seen it in use. Bike was a road king. A few things to note are that it requires a big truck with a very strong bumper since over 200 pounds will rest on it. The rear tire will be spinning and a flat would really suck. The pick-up I saw was traveling very slowly and conducting some super wide turns while constantly trying to avoid bumps.
Better to buy a used trailer or buy the condor chock imitation from harbor freight for $60 and rent a smaller u-haul box trailer. The u-haul motorcycle specific trailer is not available for one way trips in many locations.
I have used the motorcycle tow dolly and it works okay for short distances as long as you use tie down straps that ratchet down. I have not used it over a 20 mile distance yet at highway speeds.
Here's a pic of my scoot on the UHaul. No problems. Tied down the front around the lower triple tree, one to each corner of the trailer. Tied down the rear from the sissybar mounts to the trailer.
