Heading south from northern Alberta with bikes in trailer. Going for some warm weather. Any suggestions for good stops or things to see please post. Thanks. First time going to the States.
Grand Canyon, but it will be cold there this time of year. Oak Creek Canyon from Flagstaff to Sedona via 89A. Flagstaff will be cold until you drop off of the mountain.
Devil's Highway/Coronado Trail/Hwy191 from Alpine to Morinci. Alpine and vacinity will also be cold until you do the drop off.
Sedona to Prescott thru Jerome and over Mingis Mountain. Prescott to Wickenburg. Tombstone, Bisbee.

Monument Valley, but again cold.

Coronado Trail goes over 9400' summit, a lot of the route is >7000', I'm not sure it's even passable until later in the year.
Most of northern AZ will be kind of chilly until April/May and I would avoid unless there was a warm spell.
The Sedona area will be on the chilly side, but nice. The best rides in the area are along the 89A through Oak Creek Canyon and over Mingus Mt (at 7,000 ft in elevation, there could still be snow up there). Cool places to visit (besides Sedona, which is one of the coolest places in AZ) are Jerome, Clarkdale, Page Springs and various Native American sites (all well publicized). There are a few vineyards and wineries in the area with several tasting rooms.
This is a good time of year to ride along the Colorado. I really like the ride from Parker to Lake Havasu and the section of Route 66 from Kingman to Oatman and Needles is pretty good too. Not a whole lot to do in Western AZ though and you really want to avoid Lake Havasu City during Spring Break.
Southern AZ would be your best riding this time of year IMO. The spring flowers will be blooming pretty soon and with all the rain we've had, things should green up nicely. Lots to do with lots of wide open space. There are too many things to mention them all, but both Patagonia and Portal are big destinations for bird watching, Sonoita is wine country, and Kartchner Caverns near Benson is pretty cool. Tombstone is near there too if that kind of thing floats your boat.
And... Depending on when you are coming down. Cave Creek and Carefree areas are a nice spot to ride to on your scoot. Arizona Bike Week is also around the corner : http://www.azbikeweek.com/
Thanks everyone greatly appreciated. I think coming from the cold we will stick to the southern part of Arizona. we will for sure hit Route 66 portion and go from there. We are taking the bikes out today in mesquite. Woo hoo!!!!!! Beautiful weather! And a great ride coming up.
