Huh - We took August off...
So I have a large amount of carryover vacation. I'm truly lucky. I've taken all of August off. I'm not sure how it's all gonna shake out, but leaving Ft. Mac, AB, and heading south to the US and doing a loop [someplace] and winding up at the 110th in Milwaukee. I'm not sure, I've been to Vegas, Crater Lake, Oregon Coast, Washington State [Spokane, Wenatchee, Leavenworth, Olympic Peninsula, Winthrop.]
Dunno, Just not sure where to go. I'm not sure about Colorado, but have heard lots of good stuff.
Sturgis? I'd check out ZZ Top again [went to 70th], but I'm not super drawn other than ZZ.
We're thinking about storing the motorcycle near Vegas, and flying down in December??
Pretty spoiled I know. I just know that riding in Ft Mac is crappy at best. Out to Anzac or Syncrude.
Just looking for hints and tips.
Come on spring!! [or summer. It might need summer here to melt the snow.]
Thanks Guys
Harry
If you haven't visited Waterton Park, on your side of the border, and Glacier Nat'l Park on our side, it's definitely worth doing.
From there, I'd suggest Yellowstone, and if you still need more "saddle time" southern Utah has some awesome scenery.
We've been "west" several times, usually in the hot, dry, summer months and my wife always wanted to tour there when it was cooler.
In the fall of 2007 we took a two week, 2,000 mile loop from Clovis, NM and ended up down in the Carlsbad Caverns before heading back to Clovis and that has been one of my wife's favorite rides.
Took me nearly 30 years to get here there and she occasionally talks about the "bats" leaving the caves for one of their nightly feeding rituals.
Then there's the great roads in Arizona, but it is going to be hot in a lot of the state that time of year.
Montana and Northern Idaho have a lot to offer as well.
When we leave the 110th, we are going to Front Royal, Va. and ride the Blue Ridge Parkway to NC. and do the Dragon before we come home.

Colorado sounds like a winner. There is talk also of riding down the Mississippi River to New Orleans. The wife has to fly back to go to work for a week cutting me loose to quick haul to Milwaukee. She'll fly down for the weekend and then she flies back. There is talk about running mine to Vegas and storing it there. Then maybe fly in December to do some riding. Then maybe try for Mardi Gras the next year...
Lots of options. Sturgis is a possibility, but as said ZZ Top plays aug 4th.
The wife has an 07 Deluxe, she wouldn't want the longer saddle days. We did the going to the sun road last August. She rode her FLSTN. she did awesome but doesn't want to ride 500 mi a day every day. Ok 400 mi a day. Ha ha.
Collecting ideas. We are trying to NOT go to Vancouver Island this summer. Just that we always go and spend the week or so between her or my parents.
(Aside - she -HATES- Kid Rock. We shall see how the 110th goes over...)

To all those who love travel + motorcycles - The long trip is phenomenal. I recommend it to each and every one who have graced the Road Trips section. I had a glut of vacation time, and I think it is important to take a trip like this NOW, and not wait wait til retirement. The longest day was 1230 km [768 mi]. We took days off in Reno, LV, Big Easy, Orlando, Orlando [I know], and of course Milwaukee. I'm on a high from the road, and miss it today, but I know I will go again. Maybe setting my sights wider.
I'll quit blabbering - it was awesome.
