Does anyone have any good rides for a two day trip leaving seattle in May, and what direction would you point it and why? ILove the mountains of idaho on route 12. But being from Maryland and only having a few days to ride with an old freind.
1. North of Seattle take HWY 20 east to Grand CoulĂŠe and back on HWY 2if the passes are clear. Best views and roads in the state.
2. West to the Olympic Peninsula and ride around the "Loop" Bremerton on HWY 3 to HWY 104 to HWY 101 Port Angeles Crescent Lake, to HWY12 to HWY 108 at Mc Cleary to Shelton and back to Bremerton on HWY 3.
Thanks, that was awesome. Hows this for hoping, I hope we get clear wheather for the ride so we can see as many of these roads as possible. Thanks again ! With it snowing outside this is my riding fun! Planning good rides with friends.
If you were coming to the east side you wouldn't worry about the weather. I have been riding 3-4 times a week to work for about a month and a half. Only problem over here is the desert is not near the scenery of the west side. The loop looks like a great ride, lived in the state all my life and have never traveled it. Enjoy your visit!
Dont forget Windy Ridge.....Mt St, Helens observatory go south to woodland and head east........i hear they are gonna close this highway after this summer!!!!
I had the privilege of riding the northern half of the Cascade Loop last summer. Sensational views, no traffic. If the passes are open you can't go wrong.
There is a great book, called "Destination Highways Washington" (www.destinationhighways.com) that details 346 best motorcycle roads in the state! It rates twistiness, pavement, engineering, remoteness, scenery, and character ... as well as an overall rating too. It also narrates virtually mile by mile what to expect, so you can pick your asphalt and put your fists into the wind. There are 9 Destination Highways in the Puget Sound area ... and even some higher rated ones just south near Mt. St Helens. My favorites are rated #4 and #2 in the book. DH4 runs from Randle through the Gifford Pinchot forest along the east side of the mountain, be sure and take DH2 all the way up to the mountain and see all the "blow down" trees - a real twisty road! - and then head back out and finish off DH4 ... of course, I enjoyed DH9 a lot too - that one takes you up to Mt Ranier!

Definitely agree with the suggestions to ride the Cascade Loop...stop in Leavenworth for lunch. It's an awesome town completely styled after a Bulvarian town (you'd swear you were in the Alps somewhere).
