Heading out on the first trip of the year in a few weeks and think we are heading towards Texas. I have a pretty good route picked out through ark and part of Oklahoma but I have only been to Texas once so kind of lost on we're to go.
1st day will be getting down there and need one day for home so looking for a 2 day loop in texas. Starting and ending somewhere around Texarkana. Probably around 1000 miles give or take.
Looking for some good riding and scenery. Would like a strip of coastal but not to long as we prefer more curvy rodes.
If your route already doesn't include it, from Texarkana I'd go up to Mena, AR and then come into OK on the Talimena Pkwy (1?)...I think that's what they call it. Ride on over to Talihina and then down US271 into Texas. Tip you hat when you cross the Red River. Then I'd say look at your map and generally head south toward Tyler, Palestine (pala steen), Crockett, Lufkin, Nacogdoches, Longview, Jefferson and back to Texarkana. All that country in there is good riding. If you see a FM (farm to market) road and it's going the way you want to go, take it. Good roads. You'll be riding along and see a turn for a FM road and you'll wonder, "Where the hell does that road go?" Turn around and take it. With only 1 day in and 1 day back to Texarkana you won't get anywhere near the coast. All that area east of Dallas and north of Houston should keep you busy and you'll get to know the Piney Woods. Just remember most of that is really "country"...dry counties, no local microbrews to sample or cool, little places for dinner.
Somebody is going to say this, so I will. The Three Sisters south of Fredricksburg is wonderful. Lots of info on the internet along with some great food and beautiful riding.
Lufkin is my hometown. Not great riding but hwy 21 or 294 out of alto going to Grapeland is a nice ride. Nacadoches has a few sites to offer and 21 goes from there to alto. Its a historic wagon trail or something, I cant remember. Got some hills and a few twisties. They've been doing some logging so some of the scenery is now stumps. Palestine to Tyler on 155 is a nice ride, good road and you go across lake Palestine. I think there are some wineries around there too. Canton is pretty cool also. Beware the traffic in Palestine, its a busy little town. Its not great when you're going through the towns but the fm roads are worth the trip. Lots of folks ride 21 from Grapeland to nac.

Nac, Lufkin and Palestine are all wet now but I don't think there are any micro breweries in that area. Lufkin has some decent eateries but Nac has a cool downtown. Lots of local vendors and the streets are brick. Lugnutz, south on hwy 59 from Nac is the local biker friendly bar. They've always got something going on.
Ok thanks for the help. Guy I am going with really wants to hit the coast so I tried to use what I could from you guys, a motorcycle road website to get what we need.
4 days 2043 miles
Day 1 is home down to New Boston TX, hitting a lot of good roads in AR and part of Oklahoma.
Day 2 head from New Boston down to Galvestine. Taking HWY 87 through Sabine National Forest. Figure after dinner in Galvestine will hit some high way up to Cleveland to cut some miles off the next 2 days.
Day 3 Cleveland to Paris TX, hitting what they called Caney Creek to Rye, Point blank Raceway, FM 357 "a magnum of a ride", then Palestine to Edom, then up to Paris. Depending on time would like to make it further past Paris but will see.
Day 4 back home on some good Ar roads different than we came down on.
Welcome any feedback as looking at maps and websites don't always paint the real picture.
