A couple of weekends ago, my wife and I rode our Heritage to the Big Bend (Texas) area. It was a 3 day for us. We spent the first night in Alpine, then rode to Presidio and took FM 170 (AKA River Road) to Terlingua and then back up to Alpine.
It's a great ride - I fully recommend it. Very little traffic, awesome scenery. It gets hot in summer, but we went in spring, so it was in the 80s while we were riding.

Here are some pics - enjoy!
Nice pics. I know you had a good time. I've ridden those same roads and they are a great ride.
that is one of my favorite parts of texas. fort davis is very nice too...there is a loop there that you need to ride. chisos mountain lodge in big bend and the gage hotel in marathon are 2 nice places to stay-along with the indian lodge at the state park in fort davis. the museum of big bend in alpine, marfa lights, and mcdonald observatory are all worth seeing.
we saw three bears about a mile from the lodge in the chisos mountains last year! bears in the texas desert...kinda neat.
Wife and I just returned from 8 days in the Big Bend. April is a good time of year...not to hot, or too cool.
We hauled the bike in the toy hauler. Stay 4 nights in Alpine and 4 nights in Terlingua. I can confirm how good the riding is out there. My two favorite rides were the River Road between Lajitas and Presidio. We road over to Presidio for lunch and rode back the same route.
My other favorite was the Ross Maxwell Scenic Highway, which is the road to Castalon inside the national park. It does all the way down to St. Elena canyon where one can walk right out into the Rio Grande dry bed and marvel at the canyon walls.
Best trip we've taken in many years. I highly recommend.
