I personally don't find it very good to be in the seat 12+ hours just for the sake of miles.....not my kind of trip.....we are a group of 8 bikes/couples who like to ride but also sightsee and explore this beautiful country of ours....
But you enjoy your ride.....be safe.
This year the great northeast....June 10th to-26th...

Last I checked, you can enjoy both styles of riding.
When I ride with buddies that like to flower sniff, I take my time.
When I want a bigger playground I get on the bike and get off a few states away.
If you are riding just one style or the other I would say you are missing out.

I normally ride according to the amount of time I have. If I want to ride the Pacific Coast Highway and all I have is 20 days I need to average 500 miles a day or take some shortcuts. So I may ride 16 hours or more in some areas giving me time to do something along the way.
