I'll be leaving in 3 weeks to ride to Colorado, Estes Park to be specific. I'll meet up with some riding buddies there and spend a few days riding the Rockies. Here's my itinerary:
Day 1 - Chandler, AZ to Cortez, CO via Monument Valley
Day 2 - Cortez to Pueblo
Day 3 - Pueblo to Estes Park. I want to be in Estes Park early, that's the reason for this short, easy day.
Return trip:
Day 1 - Estes Park to Montrose
Day 2 - Montrose to Show Low, AZ via the million dollar highway
Day 3 - Show Low to Chandler. It's going to be 110° or more in the Phoenix area, I plan to leave early to get home before it really heats up.
That's about 1,965 miles, not counting the miles from 3 days of riding in the Estes Park area. Should be a great trip, I've been planning this for over a year.
Cortez to Pueblo will be a long day (both Cortez & Pueblo will be hot!). I have driven it many times -- at least you get Wolf Creek if you go the 160 route. Go up Trail Ridge when in Estes. SJ Ron .
The Rocky Mountains surrounding Estes Park is some great riding. As mentioned before Trailridge in the Rocky Mountain National Park is a must ride. We also like to ride the Peak to Peak from Estes Park to Golden, Co. Also Big Thompson Canyon from Estes Park to Loveland, Co. is a must ride. Have fun.
Was just in Montrose over Memorial day weekend. Black Canyon of the Gunnison is very pretty. Getting to ride Million Dollar Highway North to South, incredible. There is a biker freindly hotel under new management in Montrose that is clean and cheap called Briarwood Inn if you are interested.
Cortez to Pueblo will be a long day (both Cortez & Pueblo will be hot!). I have driven it many times -- at least you get Wolf Creek if you go the 160 route. Go up Trail Ridge when in Estes. SJ Ron .
I live in Phoenix, Cortez and Pueblo won't be hot to me. It will seem refreshing!
