I agree with those who suggested taking I-5 to Redding. It will save you time. Then cut to the coast on 299. If you google best motorcycle road trips in CA, 299 is close to the top. About 120 mile ride to the coast. But the ride south from there on Hwy1 is unbelieveable. Couple of cool towns & motels, Crescent City, the Crescent Beach Motel. Kinda old but right on the beach. Gualala is also I great little town to stay if you go that far south.
