Spent two weeks recently on bike riding OK, NM, CO, AZ, UT and back. Fortunate to ride late May, early June, with no fires and very mild weather. Here is video of one part of one day on the Moki Dugway out of Mexican Hat, UT. Lots of fun. Best to watch in 720p HD.
Thanks for the video. The first time I rode it we approached from the north, and christened it "the edge of the world." Ive ridden it a bunch of times since then.
As far as the concerns:
This is a really well maintained stretch of gravel. It's only a few short miles long, and kept very well graded. I've ridden it at all different times of the day, and there's rarely any other traffic. Just a few miles from there I was stopped once for road construction. In ten minutes, only one car came up and waited with us for the flagman.
Great video. Looks like you went out early/late to avoid traffic...lol. Weren't you concerned with rock chips to bike from gravel being kicked up?
No problem with the gravel. Video makes it look like we are riding faster than we really were, and stayed far enough back when the other bike was in front of me. Biggest problem was the wash board conditions making the road rough. One day we rode to 12,126 feet over Cottonwood Pass from Crested Butte side. It is about 12 miles of hard pack dirt and gravel... now that was an experience, since the wash boarding was terrible. Had a few screws vibrate out from the fairing. Good thing Harley uses grade 8 bolts. lol I am , believe it or not, very **** about my bike. It is a 2004 Electra Glide with 70k on the odometer and looks almost as good as new.
Here is my blog from several trips. Keep in mind, I'm not a very good writer and was often tired by the time I got around to posting photos, etc.
This trip was in May of this year into June. On the blog right side you can click on the May date and start from day one. May be a bit confusing...cause I know it confuses me. lol
