Questions about trip from Arkansas to Washington State
Hey guys,
We are ridding from Jonesboro, Arkansas to Spokane, Washington. Leaving August 17 with 5 days to arrive. We are going up through Kansas City, Missouri north to Sioux Falls, SD then west on I-90 on into Spokane. I realize thats not the most scenic route and on the way back we will probably detour some.
My question is what is I-90 like through that stretch? Just wondering what to expect and what to look ot for. Any decent scenery on the interstate? Anything we need to try and avoid?
lots of dead trees in montana ( pine beetle?) and most of the clear cutting can't be seeen from the road.
weather should be warm and pleasant.
not so great dealer in gilette wy, good dealer in missoula if you need service.
if you are motelling, most places will fill up, get in and get a room by 4:30 or 5
you'll be dealing with lots of bike traffic/ high demand post Sturgis
if you are a HOG member add the $20 unlimited mileage road service to the comp service that comes with membership
there is amazing stuff to see if you can detour on the way beck...yellowstone, grand tetons, jackson hole, cody etc.

Since you're used to interstates like 40, 55 etc. there in the Mid-South you'll find that stretch of I-90 you asked about actually pretty nice. I just rode I-90 from Rochester, MN to Spokane and it was in very good shape. Well, SW MN was pretty crappy but you're not riding that part. Some summertime construction here and there but no big deal. Car and truck traffic will be pretty light and you'll be able to run in the low 80s without attracting LEO's. I predict you'll meet lots of good people riding this country out here.....not really much to try to avoid.
