It is a great place to visit, but a great place to get in a world of hurt sometimes. When the latter happens, you have no civil rights or help. Nothing wrong with going if you understand and accept the risks.

Thanks for the reply Dennis, I would venture to say only Mike knows what he meant.
I agree Mexico is a great place to visit, especially on a motorcycle. I understand and accept the risks. As I stated before I found the people to be warm and friendly and as far as a "world of hurt" goes see post #1.

My next trip is to enter at Ojinaga travel to the Copper Canyon and on to Durango where we will ride the Espinazo del Diablo to Mazatlan and then on to Puerto Vallarta to meet our wives for a few days of relaxation on the beach after which we will head back to the U.S. via Guadalajara and Piedras Negras/Eagle Pass. So I started this thread to gather info and learn from other's experiences not to enter in to a debate about whether or not Mexico is safe. I've felt more threatened in some of the neighborhoods here in the northeast than I have in Mexico. If any of you have any travel info on these areas of Mexico it will be greatly appreciated.

Joe Mc, I envy you. The last few days, I have been thinking of duplicating my ride of 1974. I was 22 and rode solo to Guadalajara, Mexico in a Triumph Bonneville. That was an experience of a life time. I am now 62 and don't know if I have the stamina to do the same trip again, but I would like to try. I remember riding thru the Desierto Del Altar, in Sonora, and boy I almost died from the heat. At that time, there was only the two lane road. I was born in Guadalajara, and I agree, you mind your own business, stay in tourist areas, and no one will mess with you. Your trip will be quite an adventure. Last year I drove and passed by several Harley dealers in Mexico. Yes, Mexicans do love and ride their Harleys. They love them with a passion, just like us. Keep me posted, I would like to help you plot your trip.

Thanks for the offer I will keep it in mind. Don't let age hold you back....do it as long as your healthy and able. I'll be 70 in February and I plan on many more rides, it's a big country we have here and access to many others, Canada, Mexico, Central America, South America, so get out there and enjoy them. Life is short. Thanks again.
