That's an interesting choice in routes. And as Rolla said, it's not the Pig Trail. In fact, the Pig Trail would be a far more direct route - but that's not always what it's about is it? Mt Judea (Judy) is a great ride. 21 is a great ride. 7 is a great ride. The Pig Trail is pretty good, but once you get past the climb and descent, it's no better than anything else in the area. Hwy 65/62 can get a little boring compared to everything else and you run through a bunch of towns before you hit ES, just so you know. Lots of traffic too. If it were me I would cut over on 74 and then up 21 - much more scenic and way less traffic.
Food for thought, on your way back, 23 (Pig Trail), to 215 to 103 is a great ride.
It was pretty green a few days ago - no real Fall colors to speak of.
Fear not - the ride will be amazing anyway! Some fresh chip and seal on part of 123, but it's not bad. You're in for a real treat coming in to Mt Judea. I've never taken it from the south. It's a descent rather than climb. To me it's much more fun than riding from the north.
I'll reiterate that 74 east is an AWESOME road. We took 74, 43, 103, 412, 103 and the 21. Fantastic roads - as good as it gets in the Ozarks. I strongly encourage you to skip hwy 65. Unless you're sick of curves by that time.
Rode past Low Gap and saw the 5 start restaurant on 74. Lots of folks hangin around on the porch and waving as we went by. Wish we had skipped lunch in Oark and left room for that. Unfortunately the new ownership in Oark has let quality slip. I can't say I will recommend the General Store in Oark anymore. A real shame.

Did the Mt Judea ride from the South in June, switchback after switchback that makes the Pig Trail seem like an expressway.
That's a shame about the quality of food going down at Oark. I did notice a change after the new folks took over.
BTW, Low Gap is on 74 between Jasper and Ponca.

Correct. I missed the 4. I'll fix it to avoid any future confusion.
Totally agree on the Pig Trail. I took some friends through that first because it's the famous one. Then took them on 103, Mt Judea, and 74 - all of which are better, imo, than the over rated Pig Trail.
