Was thinking about skipping Sturgis this year and heading up to the beartooth rally. Has anybody been up there during this event? Just wondering if the rally is worth even going up for? Or if I should just make a trip up there during the non rally couple of days.
It's a smaller rally and the riding up around the bear tooth pass and surrounding area is very good. Chief Joseph highway and the Big Horn Mountains in Wyoming is pretty good and Yellowstone is right next door.
I,m not much for the big rally's and if you aren't either then this one will suffice.
You'll mostly get the locals from the surrounding states attending and of course some Canadians.
Enjoy.
That weekend of the rally accommodations can be tough to find in Red Lodge so plan accordingly. Fine country to ride and Red Lodge is a great little town.
Great scenery and riding.
Just a suggestion here but unless you're planning on camping and/or doing some heavy partying I'd take a look a staying in Cody, WY.
We trailered to Billings, MT in 2010 and dropped our truck and trailer and rode a huge loop through Glacier Nat'l Park, the Tetons, Jackson Hole, Yellowstone Nat'l Park ending up in Cody.
We stayed 2 nights in Cody (I finally got to tour the gun museum!) and we then rode through the Chief Joseph Hwy and Beartooth Pass on our return to Billings.
Our friends say it was one of the best vacations they've ever had.
