The 3rd weekend of July is an event in Muskegon, MI called "Bike Time".
It's in downtown Muskegon, consisting of "Steel Horse Alley", which is a long stretch of street open only to bikes and foot traffic. Beer tents, live music and food. Most of the venders, (leather goods, accessories, etc.), are headed toward Sturgis, as Bike Time is a stop along the way. Hotrod H.D. is the local dealership and biggest sponsor and are centrally located downtown as well.
1st weekend of August is the National Motorcycle Hillclimb in Muskegon as well. See muskegonmotorcycleclub.com for more info.
There is a cross lake ferry from Muskegon to Milwaukee that runs twice a day all summer. It's about a 2 1/2 trip and beats driving through Chicago.
Pretty much the entire shoreline of Lake Michigan on the west coast of Michigan is a pretty nice ride, with plenty of public access. No, I'm not with the Chamber of Commerce, I just live here for a reason. Enjoy
Hwy 2 out of St. Ignace westward along the lake is gorgeous. You can take it all the way to Escanaba, then hook up with 35 south to Marinette. Also - the "Big Mack" bridge (Mackinac Bridge - from Mackinaw City to St. Ignace) is a kick. You can see right through the steel grates all the way to the lake below as you're riding over it.
X2 on H58 from Grand Marais down to Munising. It is one of the best roads anywhere. The Keweenaw Peninsula is also a great place to visit. Spend the night in Copper Harbour if you can.
Of course all of these places are locate in Upper MICHIGAN!

If you ever want to see how Harley has improved ride the wire section of this bridge. Harley bikes made in the early 80s went squirrelly on the bridge. New ones not so bad.

Mackinaw City (LP), Mackinac Bridge and Mackinac Island all worth going to see. No cars on the island, take ferry from Mackinaw City or St. Ignace, walk or horse drawn carriage. Route 2 across the UP is a good road.
You are coming from Pa, so I suggest on the way up or down, stop in Green Bay. If you are a football fan, Lambeau Field is a must see. Spent the afternoon there, saw everything including Super Bowl I and II trophy, very cool. Oh and if you get to GB, might as well go to Milwaukee.
