You think it's a great physical feat of endurance and skill to ride your bike to Sturgis, the pilgrimage as you call it. Well here's a news flash. You're sitting in a saddle on the interstate holding the throttle on. Anyone on the planet can do that. It's not that big of deal. If you were riding over the ice cap from Russia, or through the jungles of Central America then you could brag about how hard core you were about riding there.
Cheryl and I rode to Daytona 2 Falls ago. We were on the main drag in one of the taverns talking to some folks. When they heard we rode in from Wisconsin they expressed how "hard core" we were for riding that far. I appreciated the sentiment but told him that we don't feel very hard core traveling on a bagger with a backrest, heated gear, windshield, stereo, and cruise, but thanks.
We do it because we like it. And if we choose to trailer some day, it wont change a damn thing. Its all good. Do what makes you happy.

Last year my wife and I did the combined toy hauler / motorcycle holiday, like I talked about earlier. Ironic thing, I put 3000km (1800mi) on the bike alone. Each time we stopped for a few days I'd take off on day trips and rack up the miles. Same in Sturgis. So in the end, I can say I trailered to Sturgis and put more miles on my bike than most people did who rode it there! lol.
