Default January recommendation?

I live in Michigan and it has been a VERY hectic holiday season at work and I was thinking of taking my wife somewhere in January for a week and rent a bike and cruise around since we will not be back out until March at the earliest here. I'd also like somewhere with some nightlife since we will be riding all day.

I searched the forums here and Vegas seemed like a good choice as she has not been there but it seems it is still cold there in January.

Any locations in real warm areas (Arizona, south Texas, Florida) that has some interesting rides? I've been to Florida a lot so I'd prefer somewhere else.

Thanks for any input.

Phoenix in January can be real nice. It will get chilly at night, but should be in the 60's-70's during the day, provided we don't get a cold front swooping down from the north. Typically right now mid-December is our coldest period of the year. There's plenty of good riding here, just stick to the lower desert valleys, which is a large portion of the state.

Might take a look at flying into Phoenix and ride out toward La Quinta/Palm Springs and then over to Lake Havasu, AZ/Laughlin, NV area and back to PHX. Should be nice even in January.

I'll second that idea

I would do Florida again, the weather is always good in the winter, no rain and not too hot. You can ride around Lake Okeechobee, the everglades, Florida keys.
Stay in Miami Beach, Jupiter, Marco Island, Homestead, key West and route your riding between where you will spend the night. If you decide to come to Florida, let me know and the wife and I will meet up with you when you're near Miami.

I've been looking for a Jan. riding destination as well. I look at the monthly weather "norms" and rate Arizona in Jan. as marginal for riding temps. South Texas and southern Cal. are better. South Florida is the best, I think the only CONUS Jan. destination with average Jan. temps in the 70's. A few years back my wife and I rented in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico and rode up the Baja for just one day. I'd do it again in a heartbeat, except ride a lot further and take in more of the cities north of Cabo.

Venture out to the local spirits store, lay in a supply of your favorite beverage, curl up under a blanket, drink the spirits and you won't care how cold it gets in your dreams. Your mind and imagination can take you places that you can only dream of seeing. I've been to the UP and it's cold there on the 4th of July.

Vegas is typically upper 50's to mid-60's during the day and 40's at night. Short days this time of year (dark by 4:30) but we're a great jumping off point for areas like Death Valley (70's/80's during the day), Joshua Tree Nat Park, parts of Rt 66, Lake Mead, Oatman, AZ... Most of these places are really only nice this time of year - too hot otherwise
