I'd probably go with Deadwood for nightlife, No. 10 Saloon and The Stockade usually have something going on. There are a lot of bars and casinos there. Almost always some concert every weekend in summer.
Spearfish has a couple of cool bars, The Back Porch is always rockin' in the summer and that's where a lot of locals from Deadwood, Lead go to party.
The local people in the whole area are great to party with, in any town in the Black Hills, so you really can't go wrong.
It does still get cold at night, so wear your leather.
Enjoy your trip!
Yeah, we've been doing some looking and Deadwood seems to be more our liking IF we can get rooms at a decent price.
Unless you are into staying someplace historic don't stay at the Franklin's main hotel. We paid extra to stay in a Main Street facing "historical" room thinking it would be unique staying in an 1880's hotel. Well the furnishingss were from the 80's, the 1980s and the room look like it hadn't be updated since then as well.
Across the street is the "standard" rooms and they seemed OK and the price was cheaper.
Cadillac Jacks isn't historic but it's a nice hotel at a decent price and is just down the street from the main part of Deadwood.
Just note that like most tourist towns, the lodging price goes up on the weekend.
Lastly my Wife and I are typically "Golden Corral" kinda of diners, but if you are in Deadwood for dinner and want to treat yourself to a special treat go eat at Kevin Costner's Jake's restaurant upstairs in the Midnight Star. It will cost you around $100 for dinner and drinks per couple but it's a dining experience that you will enjoy. We always treat ourselves dinner there when we visit the area.
Just south of rapid city. Called teepee campground. Just basic cabin, but it's a roof and air and electric for a few more dollars than tent camping.
+1 on Tee-pee Campground.
It's been in business at least since the first time I came to Rapid City in 1977 as a kid so they must be doing something right.
I have stayed at Ironhorse Inn in Whitewood, SD six miles from Sturgis. July 24th thru July 31st is $495 including tax. 2 Queen beds, AC, full bath, Laundry steps away, and semi covered parking at your door. Oh yeah local restaurant (great) and local bar within 1/4 mile..
