Default "Wow, in one day?"

…That's the question a guy on a fully dressed Road King asked me at a gas station in Mountain Home, ID. I had told him i was riding from Pocatello to Boise and taking a route to the top of the Snake River Plane through the Craters of the Moon and then cutting under the Snake River to ride along the Oregon Trail to Boise, in all a 353 mile ride. What caught me was this was my first big point A-B ride since i got my bike in Sept and i never thought of is as a endurance ride, but a long byway run that would take a better part of the sunlit day.

I couldn't have picked a better route, the roads were dry, the temps were ok even without heated gear, and the high mountains of the Sawtooths to the north had a lot of snow which gave way to the dry plains around the Snake River up to the Treasure Valley. My longest ride before this was a 60 mile round trip with a 90 min stop at the halfway point and there's nothing like chewing up miles to get comfortable on a highway ride.

As i watched my Harley brother ride off on his dressed RK with heated seats, wind guards and fairing, i figured you don't ride as many miles in a day when your passenger was a good looking broad like he had, maybe he better plans then another 100 miles.

Longest one day ride that I can remember was from Port au basque to St. Johns Newfoundland in one day. 900 kms or about 540 miles. Wasn't bad. We have no problem with riding 300-400 miles a day. That is just fun rides. The wife is behind me and never a complaint from her either.

I thought this thread was going to be the guy who wanted to rent a bike and ride 1,500 miles in one day.
Your ride is a good start, but not out of the ordinary. Search Iron Butt.

Some people are just weird bro. I got a lot of funny looks when some people found out we rode from Boise to Lodi, CA. I was riding my Street Bob, my wife her Wide Glide, only 580 miles or so. We LOVED it!!

Longest one-day ride was Houston, Texas to Colorado Springs, CO. -- all in one day. Yeah, 1100 miles or so. Not intended to be an iron butt ride (usually stop in Raton, NM for overnight), but we made such good time that it was foolish to lay over. Gotta say that the hotel looked mighty good after that much time in the saddle!

In my years of riding, I have found that one person's idea of a days ride can sometimes vary alot depending on who you are talking to. While I don't really feel like doing an endurance run, basically an iron butt run, 3,4 or 500 mile days don't bother me at all. Once I get into the grove, I can put down the miles and not be one bit tired when I get back home.
