Sounds like a lot of fun! Looking forward to the departure is a lot of the fun. I love waxing the bike and buying iTunes music the night before a trip..
Call and get reservations to eat at Mary Bobo's restaurant in Lynchburg. I was just in Lynchburg Thursday and boy was it a beautiful day. Bottle of White Rabbit and a bottle of Rye Whiskey engraved. Be careful or Lynchburg will nickel and dime you to death on trinkets.
I see you're staying in Winchester. Not to second guess your plan, but I would think a place in Lynchburg would be nicer. The ones I saw were.
Using my points for best western all up. didn't even look to see if they had one in Lynchburg. So far I will save almost $700 for the week on motel rooms. Was planning on staying at Maggie Valley Inn, but Had so many points that I couldn't pass up free Nights. So we are staying at best western all the way until we head back on Friday.
I will have to check that out. saw a couple places on Google street view that looked cool. Never eaten at Bubba Gumps Shrimp co. either so will have to see.
You will have a great time here in the smokies. Been living here now for 22 years and I would not dream of living anywhere else. One comment on Memphis, I go there on business quite a bit so check out Rendevous or Jim Neely's Interstate bbq if you have time. Just a little different than Texas bbq or brisket but still good.
Were gonna be heading home Via I 40, but planning on running hwy 64 out of Memphis to Fayetteville,TN. then over to Lynchburg. I hope to stop on the way home and check out American pickers place. On Tuesday we plan on riding over to Gatlinburg to walk around and do what the Wifey loves to do SHOP! this will kinda be our day to take a little break from the bike. It does look like I will have to pay to park anywhere in this area.
Let me tell you the cheapest way to park your bike.
Park at Gatlinburg Welcome Center and get on the trolley for a lot less. Here's the link.
Since you're "in the area", highly recommend you ride the
Dragon. There's a lot of great state highways, but 129 is
one of the best if you like curvy. I can't wait to go back!
If your in Gatlinburg at night, there is a ski chair lift right on main street that you can ride to the top of the mountain. You can see all of Gatlinburg from the observation deck at the top. It's really pretty at night.
I'm jealous. Sounds like you did alot of planning. I will echo a few things, Rendevous BBQ in Memphis and hit Beale st if you can. JD tour is fun. Cherohala is amazing, do the Dragon if you can just to say you did. Wheels though TIme in Maggie Valley is a must. Also hit the BRP while in Maggie Valley and Moonshiner 28 is a great road as well.
If you have some extra time, skip down to Helen, GA. It is a unique little village.
Most of all, have fun and be safe.
