We got a two person dome tent at Big 5 for $35.00 dollars. Used it last year at Sturgis when we flew are Cessna up for the rally. Weights next to nothing and rolls up small enough to fit in any Harley saddle bag and still leave some room.

Big Agnes Seedhouse SL2, best tent I've had for road tripping. Sets up quickly, the SL1 might work as well for one person.
Weighs about 2lbs and is small when packed, 3 season tent. One of the best rated back packing tents, which is why we picked it up.

But its closer to the $340 price tag.

I have two tents. A Eureka Timberland 4, since 1985ish and a two man Kelty backpacking tent since early 90's. In both cases I spent a bit more at the time, but I still have and use both tents. And they have both been used in some rough spots through the years. You don't want to buy a "bargain" tent every four years or 5 trips. Depends how much you use a tent too.

I have a 7'x7' coleman. Been using it for years. It is large enough for all my stuff, mattress, and a small foldable toilet I bring with me. I can still comfortably sit in a foldable chair to dress, rest, or what ever. I have also used a 6'x6'. That one is good for sleeping only. The 6'x6' can fit in my tour pack. The 7'x7' has to be strapped to my rack. I love my coleman. Something else to keep in mind, unless you also want to camp on a snow covered mountain, I don't think you need to spend very much on a tent. $50 is plenty. Affordable and replaceable.
Anyone who has ever camped at a biker ralley has seen plenty of tents ending up in the trash dumpsters due to rips, broken zippers or broken tentpoles. Save your money. I got my coleman for under $50 and use it several weeks a year for the past 10-15 years.

16" sounds pretty nice to me. I'm not looking to pack the whole house on the back on my bike... Thanks! I guess the next question I need to ask is how to pack a bike for a camping trip. I've done several trips but did the hotel because of the old lady. Now I'm ready to do what I want.

I sure wish I could find a picture of my friends bike. He has a FXDP and he started with a lawn chair as the base and went up. Ever see the Clampetts? Needless to say, I rode in front of this nut! We had great road trips and he sure got the looks. I guess a little weed over years never went away LOL

I briefly searched Cabalas for maybe a link to my tent. Did not see one, like I said I looked briefly. Did find one that was 19". That got me to thinking maybe mine is 19". I got it out and measured, 16". Slept in it Friday and Saturday night.

In my picture, I have the tent, a small Saddleman bag, Saddleman roll bag with sleeping bag, pillow, and a sheet, and the tent on the luggage rack. I have my air mattress and rain gear on the back seat.

a few brands of tents we bought 10 -15 years ago were more tent than one can buy now. I had a coleman from the 80s that i sold still going strong with lots of miles on it. Many of the ones out there now have cheaper zippers, poles. Just be careful. They don't last like they used to.

Treating seams and extra waterproofing can help an average tent be better. Privacy and keeping out bugs is one thing... surviving a rain is another. All kinda depends on what you want from a tent and how much you will use it. Backpack style will pack smaller and be lighter, but mo $$
