There is truly so many great spots to check out from NC to VA.
Once your on the parkway, you can grab one of the free maps. Pending your time schedule, the dragon, wheels of time, grandfather mtn, Natural Bridge, etc.
Some of the best riding is all right there!
Enjoy your ride.

Yea what he said...we did them all last year...along with the Blue Ridge!! great trip.
Lots of really nice roads in that area...ask a local, they will point ya to a good ride
Taking the auto train from Sanford, Fl to Lorton Va
I'm curious what the cost of the train is for you? We're heading from DeBary to Greensburg, PA on the bikes, but thinking about the autotrain. $1900 round trip for three of us and two bikes is nuts to us.
i reccomend the tail of the dragon (do it as early as possible in the morning), diamond backs (little switzerland), blueridge parkway (if you get motion sick take some dramamine and make sure you have a nice meal before you start the ride, non stop curves which was fun)
agree with others that Skyline (toll) and Blue Ridge Parkway (free) are nice and have ridden them end to end but there are nicer roads in area. Both parkways are scenic with nice gentle bends and lower speed limits that, depending on the day, are strictly enforced. Lots of bicycles, RV's and cars on weekends.
Near Monticello is Michie Tavern which has a great, but somewhat pricey, buffet with fantastic fried chicken. Very touristy in the old 1700's tavern but food actually is very good.
Luray Caverns is a must see if you have the time. Shenandoah HD is Staunton is great to work with if you have a problem. If you head south on Route 151 from Route 250 towards Wintergreen there are several brew pubs and a distillery that makes hard cider if you are so inclined.
Rt 33 west from Ruckersville just north of Charlottesville goes over Skyline then to Harrionsburg and into WV it is a great twisty road through Senca Rocks and on to Elkins, WV. and is worthy of a ride.
I am sure there are many others that are great also. Enjoy your ride in the area.
I live in Luray, and the Luray Caverns are nice. Although I haven't been through them since 69. And it's even free for me to go through. There is a lot of nice riding in the area most of it has already been posted. Triple Crown BBQ (John Coleman) is good and High on the Hog is located in Luray now but haven't been there and haven't heard anything good about it. Personally I think the central section of the drive is the best and also the best overlooks. I've spend a lot of time on the Park and never seen a speed trap. I usually run a little better than 35 when you can(RV's and traffic will hold you up). It is a nice run though while you are in the area.

I booked our trip for July a few weeks ago. For 2 adults, 1 bike, and a sleeper cabin, it was $545 one way. When I priced it for March, it was well over $700.
It is a bit pricey, but I figure it saves us 1 hotel night cost, food for 2 days, and most importantly, 2 days of interstate long riding days.
We are going from FL to VA. Leaving on a Sunday, then taking the following week to ride home. I plan to be home sometime between Sunday and Tuesday the following week. I'm hoping for shorter days than our last trip with more sight seeing stops. Wheels Through Time is on the list. I'm watching all these BRP, etc threads closely.
