We went over the pass yesterday. If you are heading that way, word to the wise, bring something warm. It was 80 when we left Bridgeport and 82 when we got home. Silly me forgot my chaps, had to pick up some base layer thermals at the store in Lee Vining before heading back up there.
I've gotten snow there in July-August(probably not this year, though). Be ready for anything.
Yeah, the last time we rode thru in June it had snow also. I meant to bring my chaps, just somehow took off without them.... at least the thermals worked well.
I went over it in very late May or early June 1978. The road had just been plowed and the snow was 15 feet high on the side of the road. There was only one parking area plowed where we pulled on the long johns. This was around 10 at night. We didn't camp in Yosemite Valley because the meadows were flooded from the snow melt. Just one part of the best ride of my life.

Yeah, those were the days when they would open it no matter what. They wouldn't open it now with 15 foot snow drifts, no way, after they lost a plow operator around 25 years ago.... Avalanche came down on him. Very sad.

This is what it looks like up at the top now.
Thanks for the update. Heading over the pass from Coulterville to Bridgeport on Sunday. Love the "gas" station in Lee Vining, girlfriend got some one piece longjohns in there last time we were up....

The Mobile Station, yeah, great food-- I miss the trapeze! It gets a little crowed there at times though, we have been going on to Nicely's in Lee Vining, nice diner with a bar. Also a good place to stop.
In Bridgeport, we went to the Travertine Hot Springs, had a little "oopsie" on the dirt road coming out of there. I'm not sure I would ride my Harley on that road again... But the Hot Springs were nice. I might post some more pics once I get them loaded.
