Thanks Notgrownup. I need to work on my patience. This should be a good opportunity.
Many other nice roads aroundFoothills pkwy, Cherohala, Telico Plains, 441... I was there 3 years ago Memorial day and I swore I would never go again on Memorial or Labor day weekend. Pigeon forge and Gatlinburg were parking lots...
Well, my buddies grandma just died today, so he won't be going. Thinking of going to the Savanna IL iron horse rally, unless something else comes up. I'll be going solo, so if you change your mind on the Gap, let me know.
Haak30 - Man, sorry to hear about your buddy. hope it wasn't a bike wreck. We lost a lady here in town this week, kid pulled out in front of her. I'm still set on Deal's Gap. Good luck in Savannah.
12 hours in the saddle is a sore butt for me...I am planning on doing something like this in August... From Rhode Island to northern New Brunswick Canada but I am not sure yet... might have to split this up....
Just a note to close out the thread - Made it home in one piece about 3:00 this afternoon. Deal's Gap is a good ride for sure. About 1650 miles total this weekend - enough for me. South of St Louis to Cape Girardeau, some nice roads in southern Illinois and Kentucky. Stayed on the Interstate in Tenn, didn't much care for it, but it got me there.
Lenoir City is a great place to spend the night, several motels at about 50 bucks a night. I stayed at the Knights Inn, nothing fancy, but the mgr was friendly, let me park the bike up uner the canopy. Traffic wasn't as bad as I feared, rode from StL to Lenoir City on Saturday, still had time to ride the dragon Saturday evening. Daylight on the way over to Deals Gap, dark on the way back. Great scenery. Hit a pothole in Lenoir City hard enough to dump my phone out of the windshield bag, never saw that one coming. Rained enough one the way back through Tennessee Sunday to get soaked, but it kept the temps down.
Ever get stung by a bee going down the road? Nearly home, bug hit my neck, man it stung! Took me a second to figure out what happened, pulled over and dug the stinger out of my neck. Bug musta been flying backwards with his stinger out!
Next in the list is Beartooth Pass during Sturgis Bike week in August.
Thanks for the tips and advice. Get out & ride!
