Hearst Castle is worth a stop, amazing place. Here's a few suggestions for other stops along the PCH near Big Sur - Fernwood Resort. Great bar, good food you can eat out on the deck under the redwoods, motel is ok, but nothing fancy. Lucia is another good stop for lunch, never stayed there but it has some cool looking motel rooms overlooking the ocean. Ragged Point is cool, food, bar, motel overlooking the water. Nepenthe is another cool stop, touristy and expensive though.
Also, if you are going westward through Yosemite on 120, be sure to stop in Groveland at the Iron Door Saloon, great bar+restaurant, lot of history there.
Sounds like a great ride.
What's your route from Tahoe to Yosemite?
I would suggest 89 south out of Tahoe to Markleeville.
Yes our plan is to take 89 out of Tahoe to Rt 4 west to 49 to 120. That way we get to see the west side of the mountains before we cross over the next day and go down 395. I hear that 395 is HOT HOT HOT this time of year so I may have to reconsider. Thanks for the suggestions
Awesome. Might encounter serious heat, might not. Coolvests for $30-$35 work great and pack very well.
Thanks Deuuuce. Yes I have for my wife a vest and neck bandanna that horse riders use. You pour water on it and it stays cool for several hours. We did pack them so she will be ok. I'm usually good in the heat as I stay real hydrated.
Thanks DPete and Freebirdsride1 for the heads up on teh dirt road out to Bodie State Park. Dirt roads are ok with me as long as they don't have a lot of really deep pot holes. Washboard I can handle. We will get out there and assess. If its too bad we will just skip it. The beauty of being on vacation. Thanks again

4 is a great road over the "hills". I wound consider skipping 395 (I don't like really like the dry high desert of the eastern Sierra) and heading down to Sequoia out of Yosemite. Have a Great trip!!
OldHippie, was looking at this as a plan out of Yosemite to LA. What do you think?
South on 41 to Rd 222 to 168 to 180 to 198 and stay the night in Visalia, CA. Then the next morning just bust down 99 and 5 to get to LA so we can spend some time knocking around that city.
