I'm hoping this link will work. I'm planning a big trip through Utah and Colorado. This link should be the Colorado section and I'm hoping that anyone familiar with the roads can chime in and approve or give me some better alternatives. My only commitment is Delta to visit my granddaughter, other than that I'm pretty open. I know I'm not going to hit every nice road in the state, but these that I've mapped out in a counter clockwise direction look good. Thoughts?

Reason: Changed to full map code
Ive never heard of a bad road here. Just steer clear of 36 near Estes Park while they are working on the road repairs from last falls floods.
If your going to Delta, ride up over the Grand Mesa. Then try to head south to Uray and ride 550 over Red Mountain pass to Silverton where I would suggest lunch. Then on over to Durango.
You will never regret taking this run. Ive lived here many years and never tire of the ride.
Also if time permits, ride the Durango Silverton train from Durango to Silverton for the experience that will top the ride over Red Mountain on your bike. If you can't ride the train, try to be just to the north side of Durango around 8am on 550 and get your camera ready to capture the steam train heading to Silverton. Talk about making a person proud to be an American! A great shot is parking your bike and timing the train to be in the background for a great photo op.
Oh, crap, almost forgot. In Uray, plan to stop for a beer and a soak in the hot springs.
Here is something interesting, remember the t.v. series Mc Cloud with Dennis Weiver? He use to be the mayor of Ridgeway Colorado just on the north side of Durango.
In Silverton, you'll want to have someone direct you to the Handle Bars saloon for a drink.
For breakfast, we like to eat at the Little Bear cafe. Great shaving cream mug coffee. And did you know that there is a Harley Davidson clothing store there? There is a gas station there in Silverton, and throughout the hole area your never too far from fuel.

Thanks for the tips. I have that loop in my plans and will check out the train. Any ideas about the rest of my plan? I'm avoiding much of 36 and heading north.
I've ridden just about all of that at one time or another. If I can give one suggestion? The point on the map that is 'F' over Lizard Head Pass / a great ride at any time but another alternative is to complete 'E' to Durango (a "must do" drive) and move 'F' from Durango to Pagosa Springs, head over Wolf Creek Pass, Southfork...and turn north there to Creede / Lake City / Gunnison. Stop at Clear Creek Falls north of Creede.

Looks like a great option. I was looking at the road just north of Hwy 50 between Montrose & Gunnison - looks like 347 and 92 Blue Mesa. I think I like your option better. Thanks!
All are great rides! Barr none! Id only suggest HWY 550 between Durango and Ouray, Red Mountain Pass, due to the experience of narrow, high, no guardrails, scenic as all get out, and one hell of a story to tell since it's your first time.
