Anyone own one of these and if so,what do you think of it? I've always liked that particular CVO and have found one with 22K miles, for less than $16K. Anything I need to watch out for before the purchase?
TIA
Hi Clint, I owned one for 7 years here in the uk, had Zero problems with it other than chrome dropping off the Thunderstar wheels. I shipped it to Milwaukee and rode it to Sturgis in 06!!
That engine was the best harley engine I ever had (even better than my 110 CVO engine) unfortunately it far outperformed the chassis which is sadly way behind the current chassis, BUT unless you are chasing sportsbikes (like I used to do, LOL) you will be very happy with it!! Oh I forgot, the standard seat isnt the most comfortable seat , BUT it really suits the bike. Good luck with it.
BTW yellow is best ;-)
Thanks,Ady. The bike I'm going to look at is the Yellow/Silver combo. Kinda figured on having to replace the seat,if purchased. Right now,I'm just trying to decide whether to buy it or a later model non-CVO.
Tough decision Clint, for me if it was a choice between the 05 or a 09-13 i'd go with the 05 (if your sure you wont try and ride it beyond its capabilities) if its a choice between the 05 or a Rushmore Limited, I'd go for the Limited
This is us on our 06 trip to Sturgis
I went from an 06 CUSE to a 14 Limited. The 06 was a great bike ( 35K miles with no issues) but the 14 is overall a much better bike. But it does cost more.
I was very close to buying a decked out 2006 Ultra Classic, but I'm glad I held off. Although I spent more than twice as much on my CVO, I'm happy with my decision.
Go for the 05 if you like it, they are Great bikes! The 103 stroker motors are arguably the best motors Harley has ever made to date. The paint sets are some of the best looking designs Harley has put out. They combine the best looks of the lowered Street Glides and the Ultra's amenities all in one. I have found no need for the 6 speed transmission with this motor-transmission setup. Quick detachable tour packs and hard front lowers. I wouldn't give a second thought to the frame differences, the 05's handle very nice! I plan on keeping mine for many years to come and I could pay cash for a new 2015 anytime I choose, so it has nothing to do with money.
DLSSOJC, you're right about the motor, as stated earlier it's the best engine H-D ever made, also the need for the 6 speed gearbox and larger tank, however I disagree about the handling though, I did have a speed wobble (admittedly at the time I was overriding it's capabilities) and never trusted the bike after that and soon got rid.
dgreen you're quite right about the cam chain tensioners I did the screamin eagle upgrade at around 25K and there was very little wear on them, that said, I know of someone whose tensioners were shot at 15K.
So Clint you pay your money and take your choice, let us know which way you go, and good luck either way.
Yellow is still the best colour though;-)

I think the "wobble" thing is more the exception than the rule. I have logged many miles in all different types of riding situations, and never experienced the "wobble" on my 03 Road King, 04 Ultra, and 05 CVO Electra Glide. They all have the same frame with never a problem. Also I have several friends who I have ridden with for years that all have the year models and frame on their touring Harleys, and none of them have experienced a problem at all. So that is why I say I would not give it a second thought in my experience, and in the experience of those I know personally.
