My wife's has Dakota digital gauges so I trust that more then mine, my light has always come on at the 170 to 175 mile mark. We went for a ride yesterday and her bike had 231 miles in this tank and mine had 200, she took hers to work one day and I didn't hence the difference. Even using mileage I would have to run it till it runs out to know how many miles I would get. If I am only putting in 4.8 to 5 gallons that is an average of 40mpg, and putting 5.5 to 5.9 in hers means we are getting roughly the same if we are fillin hers up at 230+ miles.
My wife regularly gets 220 plus on a tank of gas, hers is just a street glide with true dual headers and slip ons. She doesn't really bet her bike or hot rod it. Me on the other hand I do enjoy hot ridding from time to time. But my issue or concern isn't fuel mileage, it's the fact that I only put 5 gallons max in and fills my tank from empty to full when it is a 6 gallon tank.
Then it's a 5gal tank !!!!!!!!!!! IS THE TANK ALL THE WAY EMPTY or do you still have the reserve gas still in it ?????
Maybe you need to call H-D engineers on this one
It's definitely is a six gallon tank.
What you are seeing is a 'safety factor' effect on your gas level.
You're bike will always have about a gallon left in it, when it wants you to get gas now!
Imagine all the Harleys stuck on the side of the road, if empty actually meant empty.
The problem knowing this now becomes, how much farther into your reserve gallon will you be driving before you lose track, and be stuck on the side of the road.
I get 40 MPG+/- on my '13 CVO Ultra.
The faster and harder I ride, the more my MPG drops but cruising between 70-75MPH my little fuel warning sign usually lights up at 200+/- miles and I usually put about 5.0 to 5.4 (or so) gallons in the tank.
When my fuel warning sign comes on I've learned NOT to trust the estimated range remaining as it is NOT accurate and that number drops much quicker than it should. I count on 25 miles maximum and I haven't ran out of gas YET!
I usually stop for fuel when my gauge gets close to 1/4 but if I'm in rural areas I stop a little sooner just to be safe.
