Confused on stock windshield, 2018 and 2019 CVO RGs
So I'm confused...my '18 Gunship Gray RG came with a beyond worthless 'windshield' on it - I mean, it doesn't even cover the vent hump on the fairing...but I saw a guy with another '18 Gunship Gray CVO at a bike night last week and his windshield was a little bit taller (although still freakin' small). I asked him what kind it was and he said it was stock.
So I looked at the HD website and it looks like all three colors on the '19 RG CVOs have the same dinky-*** short 'windshield' that my '18 has, but when I looked at the '18 bikes on the HD website it shows the extreme short windshield on the Gunship Gray and the slightly taller windshield on the other two color combinations.
So did HD offer two different screens on the '18s based on color and then go to the smaller one across the board on the '19s? Or did they just grab random pieces off of the assembly line to bolt on last year?
I have the '15 RGU which came with a taller windscreen. Lots of options on the market. Im running a light tint Freedom shield which has a very slight recurve at the top. They are a good company which has several heights available and I believe clear and 3 tint levels. Their measurement is from front of shield to top lip so not a true height. Be careful of the shield hold down screws, unless they have changed them they have a very easy to strip fine thread so start by hand is required.
Yes the 18s had 2 sizes, stupid small and really stupid small. My guess is someone grabbed the wrong one for his during assembly. There's someone running around on a black earth fade or lava orange 18 with a really short one.
I know the barcoding and QA is supposed to prevent that, but I quit believing in that after my 120 ST shipped with R cams and my 18 CVO king tour pak came with a chopped lid. Both worked in my favor so I'm not complaining, but it sure makes you wonder.
Don't worry. I have the black earth 18 CVO RG with the slightly taller short version & it's worthless too. Put on an 11" LRS, big upgrade but just didn't look as good. Settled on the 9" klockwerks. If you don't mind some wind I think it's the perfect balance of looks and functionality.

Im guessing its just as likely it was a dealer switcheroo - someone wanted one or the other on a bike they were buying.
