After a 3-year foray from Harley into the Indian (Roadmaster) brand, I have just traded it for a 2020 CVO Limited. I need to reduce the seat height by 2-3 inches, and a thinking of shaving the drivers portion of the seat and doing a rear suspension upgrade. The dealer will probably do the seat before I take delivery, but Im not sure about the suspension.
I havent heard many good things about HDs rear shocks. Any recommendations to lower the rear? I ride 2-up with the Mrs about 95% of the time and am not an aggressive rider.
Has anyone shaved their CVO seat and had good results? Were you able to retain the seat heating? I love the stitching and dont really want to get an aftermarket seat thats not a perfect match for the tour packs backrest. I find the stock seat to be pretty good, but just a bit too thick and wide.
Ohlins are the answer to drop the back of the bike an inch or two. Howard at Motorcycle Metal should be able to fix that issue for you.
As far as the seat is concerned, call Mean City Cycles in North Carolina. They should be able to rework the seat for you and keep it stock appearing.
Mean City does not modify Hammock seats, that is what you have on the CVO Limited. Check out day-long.com for the Russell Cycle Products. They take a stock seat and modify it to you. I have not used them but have seen them mentioned on this site many times as members really seem to like their work.
I lowered my 17 CVO Limited with a set of HD 12 Premium Hand Adjustable shocks I bought as new take offs from a member on here. I am sure they are not as good as what Ohlins but I bought them and sold the 13 take offs for more than I paid for the 12.
Congratulations on the new bike and welcome back to the Harley World.

I second the suggestion on Pro-Action. I was actually on the phone with George up there today. These guys raced, run racing teams, support racers and developed a HD Touring shock off what the technology learned from racing. I could spend all day on the phone with George. Amazing stories and a heck of a career in the industry.
You May not buy Pro-Action, but you owe it to yourself to call them and discuss your application.
CONGRATULATIONS on the new bike. Good luck getting it set up for you!
Thanks everyone for the suggestions. It looks like the Pro-Action shocks are unavailable currently for an unknown period of time, but it’s probably worth calling to chat.
i went to alligator bob in NW suburbs of Chicago he put in gel pad lower and narrowed hammock seat i did not lose heating feature and got me were i wanted for getting my feet on the ground
i am very satisfied with results and have 30k miles on seat and my butt is very happy riding 600 miles days.
I just purchased a 2020 CVO Limited myself and the seat is a bit wide and high. I'm thinking of doing the same. I ordered the shotgun shocks and will have them installed once they arrive. I'll post an update. It won't be for a while though as I'm still waiting for the new bike to be shipped to me.
