agreed ,th what is the procedure to remove that fork lock , so i can get the trim skirt off the bike to access the running light switch , it wont clear the tank to remove it once i take the two screws on the sides loose

I'm not familiar with the procedure for removing the CVO fork lock, but you could remove the fuel tank and the dash panel will come out without removing the fork lock. Fuel tank removal is a 20 minute procedure.

I kind of figured it wasn't a simple rotate the switch and push the release button like my 14 ultra , but it doesn't make since to have to remove the tank , for that switch panel

If its like the Road Glide. Simply push in a little at the base of the plastic trim that is around the lock. The little trim piece has a little clip that holds it in place. This video shows rhe plastic trim
