Default What am I missing here?

Hey guys. We rode to Maggie Valley this weekend to "Thunder in the Smokies". On the way home decided to ride "The Rattler". Stopped for a break and there was a couple on a CVO Limited. He heard our bike and walked over to inquire about the exhaust. I complimented his bike as it was also one of my favorite paint schemes. He said he had 75k miles and I asked if it was a 2015 or 2016 model. He quickly said NO it is a 2017. My radar went up as I own a 2017 and know the color combos that were available that year model. As I apprroched his bike I saw the TC 110 SE motor. I asked again what year it was and he said 2017!. I then questioned him because 2017 was the first year of the M8 and the 114 in the CVO. He quickly replied that I was correct, but the first two months of the model production in 2017 HD put the 110 TC SE motor in them before the M8. He was a nice guy, I did not want to get in a pissing contest and dropped the year model discussion. When I got home I researched the color and it is a 2016 model year color and graphic.

Does this guy know what he is talking about or is he clearing mistaken about the model year of his own motorcycle? The picture of the bike below is exactly what his looked like. I pulled this off the innerweb.

Thanks

Well, I owned a 2017 CVO Limited as well, and I never saw one with that paint or motor. My answer would be, if it looks like a 2016, has a 2016 motor, it's not a duck, it's a 2016.... I think you are correct my friend....

Cosmic Razorback I agree with you that the guy's bike is a 2016. I had an early production 2017 CVO Limited. Mine came off the assembly line the first week of Sept 2017 and I had the 114. Also if his story was correct, why did it still have a 2016 paint job?

People say all kinds of crazy stuff! I saw a limited paint scheme sg the other day. the rider said it was a cvo. I didnt have the heart to tell him that it was a standard 103 tc SG with a harley custom paint set on it.

Thanks guys for all your comments. I knew the answer, but was just so surprised. This guy was sharp, he was a true rider and if just amazes me he was so adamant about the year model. Oh well, he has a beautiful bike and he enjoys it! Guess reality will strike when and if he goes to trade it in!

Funny, but I think I will just start calling mine a 2021. Was at the dealership week before last to get a ABS brake flush. They pulled it outside after they finished and two guys were standing there. One said to the other, that new 2021 paint job is awesome! I heard them and just smiled.

Ride safe

I would've handle this exactly the same way... "Really, wow, I didn't know that!" and left it at that. There's no big prize on the line.

It's a '16. I was going to buy this one. I walked away from it when I went to pick it up. They dropped it an messed up the fairing and front fender after I originally saw it.
