2008 FXDSE2 start issue.
Hi all. I'm new here and have a problem that hopefully someone can help me with. I recently inherited a 2008 FXDSE2 that had sat outside for about a year. When this was finally left to me I put a new battery in it and rode it home about 100 miles roughly without any issues. It was a dream to ride. I then rode it about 15 miles and almost made it back when about a 1/4 mile up the road it sputtered and died. It started back up and ran maybe a little rough but I was able to get home. From then on it is real hard to start and when it does it wont idle and dies. If I try starting it again a couple times it usually dies and everything shuts off like the battery got disconnected. If I let it sit a while or disconnect the battery and re-connect it it goes back to the hard start issue. I've drained the fuel and put fresh fuel in replaced the fuel filter and pressure regulator and put new spark plugs in it. Nothing seems to have helped or made it worse. The bike has just under 11k miles on it and I'm not sure the history on it before the previous owner who was given the bike used and didn't end up riding it much due to health issues. The built in code system hasn't thrown any codes. I am fairly mechanically inclined but I don't have any money to take it to a shop for diagnosis and don't want to keep throwing money at things that don't fix the problem. Hopefully someone will have seen these exact issues and have a better idea of what it is. I appreciate any help and I know the previous owner just wants me to ride as do I. Thanks.
