Yeah ---- my '07 SERK does the same thing. Even does it if I slam the front brake on hard when backing it out of the garage.
I haven't tried getting it checked at the dealer ---YET.
Also got a speedometer with screwed-up backlighting at the 80 mph mark and up; and still have a very sporadic appearing high or low idle.
Damn dealers are pretty much just a sales point- don't seem to know much about their product or servicing it.
I waited 29 years to buy another Harley because my first experience was something less than satisfying. I should have bought another BMW.
i have a 08 fatboy that was doing the same thing, took it back too dealer and was told the stearing head bearings were not seated.also before i took it in i pulled the crome cap off between the forks and nut was only finger tight.u might check this especialy before doing anymore 80 mph runs.just my .03cents
Testing this 'loose steering head bearing' theory, I grabbed the front brake and force the bike back and forth against the brake - the neck bearings clack like hell each way! That's the answer...loose steering head bearings......thank you bullet65 for that information. Harley's assembly line and dealer prep slipped again! Dammit!
That's why this forum works so well - the grand experiences of the members and their willingness to share.
My FXDSE and a friend's FXDSE were bothdoing the same thing. My bike was doing it from the first day, but seemed to begetting worse. For both of our bikes it was the gas tank that was loose. My husband tighted up the tank for me and now no moreclunking over bumps.
What would a lubricant do for loose neck bearings? The 1000 mile service filled the neck already... I'm not sure what that would cure...it's still a viscus liquid...
