Why do bikes ship without fluids?
Shovelhead Bob is right. One exception. The bikes do not have gasoline due to DOT REGS AND THJE BIKES ARE RUN ON A ROBOT AT THE FACTORY. pdi(pre delivery inspection) includes some final adjustments hooking up the battery which is also not connected until the bikes arrives at the dealer. Most importantly a tech test rides the bike in real life before certifying it ready for customer delivery.Give the salesman a break. He may have made an honest mistake.
Rick is dead on! bikes are shipped with all fluids and the gas is supplied by a direct connect which is connected to the tank after the bike has run, so there is no gas in the tank.
there is very little residual gas in the line from the tank.
I watched this happen last week at the York plant
ps if you get the chance to tour York plant it is worth while and free (about 1 hour) also it corrected some impressions I had not knowing that all I mean "ALL" bikes made from 1973 to 1998 were made at the york plant and in calling it an assembly plant seems to imply that few parts are made there (which is far from the truth) engines and tranmissions are not made there but a lot of parts are!

My salesperson called me to be present at the uncrating of my SERK. After it was uncrated and I stopped drooling, I asked him if I could take it fora quick toot around the block. He replied that I couldn't since they are shipped without any fluids in the bike.
This has made me wonder whether the MOCO performs any quality/test ride after the bike has been manufactured. From what I know, all cars coming off the line are taken for a test ride to idenitfy any defectes, quality control issues, etc. Does MOCO do the same? If so, why doesn't the bike ship without fluids?
I thought that I would post this to see if any of you would know. I have been wondering about this since I got my bike.
