Cool SE engine/ valve train noise

Just picked up a se fi rg that is cherry and runs great. 47,000 miles. The engine has good oil press but has what sounds like valve noise. I don't know much about history but has a pro pipe, air cleaner, and pc 11 on it. It idles like it has cams in it but just wondered where the clicking noise might be coming from. Any ideas?? I really like the bike and it runs like strong.

if the bike had the cams replaced and roller rockers were installed, they're noisy like a ticking sewing machine at idle. if that's the case, it's a good thing. it means whoever did the work used good quality parts to maximize the engine's life and performance. brad

What year is your RG? The 2007 & 2008 SE bikes are being recalled for head replacements that have upgraded valve guides. I had my 2007 SEUC done last week and the engine is noticeably quieter. I had the same ticking sound before the heads were replaced.

I have noticed my 2007 FXDSE doing the same thing, I am still in need of having the recall work done, but I am really wanting to wait until the weather turns sour.

did your power increase after the head replacement? I have the ticking noise on my 08 SERK and it seems like my power is off on initial start after a stop??? Was thinking maybe i am getting excess blowby on the valve guides and losing power.
