Default Hydraulic Clutch

Any one had trouble with the hydraulic clutch? My 2008 Ultra CUSE III with 43,000 miles went into the shop yesterday to have the compensator replaced under factory warranty because of starter noise. The bike will be 2 years old March 28, 2010. The dealer called to inform me that my clutch was also shot. I could not beleave that because I have not had any problems with the clutch. They are also going to replace it under waranty while there. Also the dealer informed me that Harley would only replace the compensator with the stock one not the heavy duty screaming eagle one. I thought my bike was a screaming eagle? The dealer said I would have to pay $120.00 extra for the heavy duty compensator. I agreed to pay the differance wanting the best for my bike. But what is up with the clutch?

I think you are getting ripped off. Any way to go to another dealer for a second opinion?

My local dealer tried to pull something simular, I went to another dealer 100 miles away who repaired it correctly under warranty with no cost to me, using SE parts on my Screaming Eagle ultra.

I think you need to remind them that you have already paid that extra $120.00 several times when you purchased the bike, it was there to start with, it should be replaced with the same or better part than was stock.

The SE compensator did not come stock on your CVO. They now come stock on the 2010's. There are plenty of SE parts that are not on the CVO, example... Cam plate is also stock.

43,000 on your clutch? Not bad since it is rider dependent. Nice of them to swap it out under warranty.

Here is the deal. The dealer replaced my compensator with the screaming eagle updated part, replaced the clutch basket because of missing teeth. The dealer claimed this was a big part of the starter noise. They replaced the clutch just because and they replaced all the defective chrome on the bike. The dealer claims that a few of the MOCO's venders for chrome did not do a good job causing early pitting and pealing. Total cost to me was $158.00 for the differance in the cost of a stock compensator vs. a screaming eagle compensator. The dealer told me the MOCO did not start putting the heavy duty screaming eagle compensator in the screaming eagle 110's untill 2010. Go figure??? I will be picking up my bike tomorrow so I will let you know if it is fixed. I guess I can't complain, after all the bike has 43,000 miles on it and the 2 year factory warranty expires on the 28th of March. Not Bad.

Well I got a chance to go get the bike yesterday. It was about 70 miles away and a friend was going that way so I took off work a couple of hours early. Without my bike for 3 weeks seemed like an eternity and I was not going to do without another weekend. What a difference. The starter did not make any strange noises at all but the best part was while riding. Before when accelerating and decelerating there was a very noticeable slop or slack that when decelerating at slow speeds would become slightly jerky forceing you to down shift or pull in the clutch. That slack is completly gone. I think the new compensator cured that as well. I ask the dealer if there was anything I could do to prevent the starter from breaking teeth again? The dealer said that there was some parts left loose from the factory and that the problem was cured. Oh yea I almost forgot. NEW CHROME. Yea. I am well satisfied with the whole experience.
