2005 SE ElectraGlide

Bought new in 2005 and have heard that the tension shoes on the cam chains have been known to wear. I have 47K miles and am wondering what signs to watch for and what is the best fix. It is covered on extended warranty until 02/11/11.

I would suggest upgrading the tensioners from your stock spring style, to the newer hydraulic style. That is when you go into the engine.

I'm picking up an '04 FLHTCSE with 14K miles; that has been one of my concerns as well. An indie I've done business with for over 20 years says I should replace the cam chain drive setup with the gear-drive setup, but that along with a new cam he recommends will run about $1800, more than I want to spend right off the bat. I imagine you can tell from the sound when the spring tensioners start going. I'll probably go with the hydraulic tensioners as previous poster suggested when the time comes.
