Dealer is kinda pointing me towards one he has... Im a sucker for anything CVO or SE... But I have no clue just how good a bike this ?
Any insight or things I should be aware of ?
Thanks as always
It is a very nice bike. Good riding friend of mine actually has his for sale. It is meticulously kept at HD maintenance intervals. and he put some HD "stinger" spoke wheels on it. I think he would sell it at a reasonable price. He is in Lake Charles, La. Let me know if you are interested.
Just bought a 05 Roadking that had a screaming eagle 103 kit installed before delivery,Bill was $6800 WOW,It has Sceaming eagle STRK Flyw and rods,Ported Screaming Eagle heads, crane evo roller rockers,HTCC stroker pistons,SE260Cam kit,The original owner had it back to the dealer a few times for excessive vavle train noise????Went on my first ride about 50 miles and it sounds alittle noisy too me,I have asked a few people and get MIXED answer, the bike has 4000 miles on it,And last dealer invoice the mechanic States VALVE TRAIN WILL BE NOISY!!!Also since I have a dealer warranty want to make sure???Thanks for the help.Ken
Had money down on a 2010 RKC . . . while waiting, found an 03 SERK with 3700 miles . . . wow! Pulled the trigger on it and best decision I ever made! That 103ci on the 03 SERK is an awesome engine . . . time tested.
So, in your case? Make sure it has low miles, great maintenance history, and a down low price . . .
Don't let the dealer tell you it is a "collector's item." Outstanding anniversary bike, but plenty of low mileage SERKs from 02 and 03 out there for private sale . . . less than 4000 03 SERKs made, but plenty enough of them out there now hitting the used price sweet spot. "100th anniversary" tag on a bike is not big deal . . . I had a wonderful 03 100th anniversary Fatboy (non-SE) . . . loved it . . . but non-CVO 03 bikes used in real sale prices (not asking prices) are about the same in value as their 02 or 04 or 05 siblings . . . 08 and forward takes a jump on the RKs because of the new frame and wider tire starting in 08 and then the jump form 88ci to 96ci.
The 03 SERKs now usually sit around dealers longer . . . usually overpriced for the current market.
Found mine on craiglist . . . drove 8 hours one way with a trailer . . . but worth it IMO.
You are the one spending the money . . . do you like it?
But, if you are looking for a warranty . . . buy newer.
Look around . . . take your time . . . there is always a used scoot at a great price out there somewhere . . .
Now, I want to see if there will be a CVO RK on the 2013 110th anniversary bikes . . . then I will have two CVOs!
