I will soon replace both tires on my 2005 Screamin Eagle Electra Glide. I' considering Dunlops, Michelins and Metzelers. Would like to hear from members regarding your choice for replacement tires.
I have replaced the tires on ALL my Harleys with the stock stock Dunlops, you get 12,000+ miles out of them, the Harley dealers will take care of you if you have an issue 2000 miles from home.
I've tried Michelin, Metzelers and stones always went back to the Harley Dunlop for the wear and handling, but I don't run 90 MPH in the curves in the rain, so the tried and true Harley Dunlops work fine for me and their is always a Harley dealer around to repair or replace.
Just replaced my rear tire on my 08 Ultra SE3 for the second time, got 12,300 miles this time with the stock Dunlop, handles as expected. Will replace the front when I change my rear next time. Installed and balanced by Harley no issues or hassles.
The Dunlop 407's were standard on the 2009 models. This is a new design that uses different compounds on the same tire. The problem is, they're cupping quickly and Harley knows this. They've been replacing the front with an "improved" ? 408 design which has the grooves running in reverse. The rear tire hasn't been re-designed to a 408 so a long lasting matched set of these tires isn't available.
I just saw this post and hope you DID NOT buy another set of Dunlops, the aftermarket ones are softer than the OEM, and wear out quicker. I went with Pirelli Night Dragon tire, far better tire than the stock junk.

I'm NOT picking a fight or disputing your post, but HOW do you know that? Did a tire vendor or a factory rep tell you? I can't imagine Dunlop makeing TWO types of D402s, one for the HD factory, and one for everyone else.
I replaced with the original Dunlop that came on my 2005 SE Fat Boy.
Never had any complaints with the original set.
A lot of owners will state how much better the new (other brand) tires handle then the originals, but they are comparing their worn out tires to new tires.
There is always a compromise. If you want stickier tires they will wear out faster. I don't like changing tires any more then necessary.
The handling and wear rating of the Dunlops are a proven and good compromise for me.

Buddy of mine just put Dunlop Elite 3's on his SG and loves them. I've been happy with the HD Dunlops on my SEUC3, but will probably go with the E3s next time around
