Default 2001 Road King Screamin Eagle?

Hello All,
I am hoping someone can help me with some answers. I am the second owner of a 2001 Road King Screamin Eagle. The bike came to me with a custom paint job, by the owner, but I am being told that there were no Road King Screamin Eagles in 2001, only Road Glides. The past owner told me that when he took possession of the bike from the dealership all of the Screamin Eagle work had been done. The title says 2001. Is it possible that the bike was sold as a 2002? Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.

No CVO Screaming Eagle "work" is done at a dealership. It is all done at the factory. From the sounds of it, the dealership took a stock road king and put some Screaming Eagle parts and accessories on it. IT is very rare for someone to alter the paint, as it is hard to improve upon CVO paint jobs and it kills value.

Post a pic of the bike and I am sure we can tell for sure. Harley would not sell a bike that is a 2001 as a 2002. Just doesnt happen.

Default 2001 Road King screamin Eagle

As unusual or silly as it may sound the previous owner did have the bike custom painted, quite expensively I might add. I had a Harley mechanic look at the motor and it is a Screamin Eagle motor complete with Screamin Eagle engraved heads. 2001 Road King Screamin Eagle?-2011-04-13_17.26.31.jpg

2001 Road King Screamin Eagle?-2011-04-13_17.26.16.jpgCan I use the VIN# to track down the history? I am enclosing a couple of photos
I really appreciate all the help guys.

You can use the vin to determine exactly what bike it is...but first..a few things..

There was no 2001 CVO road King--only 2002, 2003, 2007 & 2008.
Screamin Eagle parts do not make it a CVO road king. Yes..there are a lot of Screamin Eagle Performance parts on a CVO, but the VIN shows if it was produced by the Custom Vehicle Operations division of HD--and that is what makes it a CVO.
The original engine of a CVO road king was silver and chrome--not black and chrome. Obviously if it were taken apart and rebuilt with Screamin Eagle parts, then it could have easily been powdercoated.

Here is a link to some info on the CVO lineup throughout the years.

A good place to go is this website.

http://www.cvoharley.com/smf/index.php

The folks there all own CVOs and know more than you could ever imagine about them. they have records of EVERY CVO ever made in EVERY color. This is how I know my 2006 CVO Ultra is 1 of 1,901 ever made in those colors.

Like others have posted, the ONLY thing that makes it a CVO is the stamping on the frame. Like it was said earlier, you can "bolt on" as many Screaming Eagle parts as you like, but unless the frame indicates that the bike was assembled in the Custom Vehicle Operations division, it is NOT a CVO. What you probably have is a 2001 Road King (Judging by the dual fuel tank lines on the left side of the gas tank it is a 2001 or earlier) that has had a lot of Screaming Eagle modifications done to it.

And Screaming Eagle does NOT mean it is a CVO. The new black and white "Skunk" Road Glide has a skulls theme on it. There are no eagles like the previous Road Glides. But since it came from the Custom Vehicle Operations plant it is a CVO.

Hope this helps.

Maybe it has changed since my 2003 FLFRSEI2, but here is how the Frame numbers work

1 - FG for USA
HD - MFG
1 - Heavyweight (901cc or larger)
PG - Model Designation [PG - FLHRSEI2]
E - Engine Type [E-1690 (EFI]
1 - Regular Introduction Date
. - Varies, can be 0 through 9 or X
3 - Model year (2003)
Y - Location {Y = York]
6 digits - Sequential Number
