I have a 2005 S/E E/G with 1200 miles. I purchased it in October with only 400 original miles. Four times since it has developed a slight but noticable engine miss at idle and exceleration. It has developed this two of the times after a hard acceleration. It has gone away each time except the last after not riding for a few days. I replaced the plugs and ran it low on gas with additives to get the old gas out. No check engine light has come on.
Any suggestions? The one time I had it at the dealership for other reasons it began running OK. There were no codes set.
I recommend a stage 1. The bikes are so lean in stock form they just don't run correct. Just a tuner (PC111 or SERT) will rectify this problem as well.
The dealer said that I need to replace the stock crossover pipe with dual header pipes as the Thunder Headers are very "open" and the cold air to revert back and cause the miss. Does this sound correct?
Hey Craig, I thought about this more and did some more research and I have to agree with Brian1. Think about all the folks here that have installed every slip-on known to man,mis-fires have not been an issue. Now I can see where you could have some 'popping' on decel. The Thunderheader exhuast was originally designed to be a 2-1 system. The added pipe may allow some reversion to occur, but I would talk to the Rich Products folks to inquire about that. Also, Rich Products has their own FI maps available for many of the newer FI HD's. I still thinkthere must be an electrical problem possibly in the ignition circuit. A dyno, exhaust gas analyzer, and a good scope shoulddirect the tech to theproblem providedhe canduplicate it.
Thanks for the info. The dealer has installed a set of D&D slip-ons and say it is fixed. As soon as the weather gets better this week I will pick it up and find out. The dealer put the Power Commander on with the Thunderheaders (slip-ons already on)and charged for mapping. Now 700 miles later they recommeded the D&Ds and want to charge another 4.3 hours to map. I fell it is a rip-off but they do not seem to care about customer satisfaction. This is after I have purchased 8 new HDs from them in the last 7 years.
So what has happened to resolve your problem??? Your last post sounded like you where aware that the stealer was going to rape you again. Aren't there a lot of shops in your area?? I have a T hanging in my closet from 'Republic'
