These are 18" apes with too much flex in them so I'm going back to the stock set up. I have all the original cables etc. I might opt for an intermediate size bar but I still need to remove the current bars.

I bought this 2012 with 900 miles on it and came with the apes installed.

So it looks like I can download the touring bike service manual and supplement for the SE for $100. Considering the $500-700 estimate to replace the apes I think I'm going to make the investment in the manuals.

Don't know where you are experiencing flex but it might be the bushings were not upgraded. Assuming that it all you do not like about them this would be a much easier/cheaper/faster fix.
Instructions for removing apes will not be any different than removing stock. Instructions for installing stock SE's will not be any different than installing a set of apes.

The bars are flexing. I think they are too long and not strong enough. At any rate my hands are substantially above my shoulders and they are coming off the bike. I must say they look good but that's where it ends.

So I finished the swap tonight. All in all it was a straightforward job. Rebuilding the connectors was a pain in the *** and I don't want to do it again anytime soon. But know that I know how it all works I'm really happy I didn't spend a ton of money on this job. Plus the satisfaction level is pretty high! The link I found in the above post was very helpful but I still needed to figureout a few "details". Now it's time to ride!!!
