Default Totaled???

So I find out this morning that my garage had about a foot and a half of water in it overnight. As a reference, the water came up just below where the top half of the saddlebag lid meets the lower. There is oil underneath the bike and the tailpipe has begun rusting on the inside. Any guesses on what I can expect once the adjuster arrives?

The bike started (I didn't see the oil until I moved the bike because of the mud and clutter in the garage) and seemed to run normally, but I'd guess there was at least a half quart of oil on the floor.

Transmission is probably full of water if the water was a foot and a half deep. You should not have started it until all the fluids were dumped to check for water.

Were you out of town as we have had no rain in Jax for about 3 weeks? Do you have flood insurance?

Good Luck with the adjuster. If you need any help with your bike, send me a PM!

Yeah, I'm in south Texas temporarily, where it never rains. Just my luck. I don't have flood insurance because the garage is in an apartment, but the bike has comprehensive coverage. The adjuster called and sight unseen, he said the bike most likely is totaled, but obviously they still have to inspect it. I don't know if this is how they normally handle these situations or what.

if they total it, buy it back! you can probably snag it from them for 1500 or 2 grand. drop it off and let an indy or the dealer go over it for a few hundred, and you have a spare SE bike for under 5K!

That is an excellent idea. I have no idea how to do it though. My buddy suggested the same thing.

Be aware that if you buy it back it will probably have a salvage title. You might want to check on it before buying it back!
