I had the 550 with xm puck on my 05 Ultra. the 550 was mounted on the left side of the fairing. If it was mounted to the handlebar, it would have been in the same location just 2 or 3 inches lower. I honestly don't think having it at the same angle but a tad lower on the handle bar would make a difference at all. I had the GXM30 under the fairing but reception was not the best, so I moved the xm puck to the handlebar with a techmount just below the GPS. This improved reception quite a bit - but still not perfect. Note: I never had a problem seeing the 550 in bright sun and never required a sun shade. This was while wearing polarized sun glasses.
I now have the 660 on my 2013 CVO Ultra. It's in about the same position as the 550 was dash mounted on the "dash". My only complaint is that the 660 is not very good at all in the sun. When I put my 550 right next to it I can see the 550 just fine, but not the 660. Must be a different screen material.
I looked at sun shades but decided to make my own. Cut out three pieces of thin plastic. (top, left and right side). Cut a piece of black leather the same color as the dash and using a 3M spray glue glued all three plastic pieces as one unit to the leather. A few industrial pieces of velcro and I have a custom looking shade that fits perfectly over the GPS.
Hi folks.
Just bought a 2013 CVO Ultra with the original HD mounted Zumo. It Works fine with the radio when road instructions are to be given, but when I Connect my phone to the divice via Bluetooth, the sound from the Telephone Call are not going to the radio systen. Hence not to my helmet. Are using hard wired helmet gear from HD. The mediaplaier on the Zumo is working (can see the musik is playing on the screen), but the sound will not replace the radio. I have tried to adjust all sound parameters to 100%. What is wrong?

You can go to this site for more information on this but I will make a short reply here. www.hdbomm.com
The ONLY audio output from the GPS on a CVO wired by the factory will be Turn Prompts. If you want to be able to listen to MP3 songs you put on a Micro SD card and insert it in the GPS or hear a phone call via the GPS you Must Use the Auxiliary Input on the Radio and your Radio Must be in the "AUX" mode. This is because you have a NIM see here: http://www.hdbomm.com/NIM_What_It_Do...oes_Not_Do.doc
I had the 550 handlebar mount on my 07 ultra, the 12 CVO Ultra has the dash mount. For me I like the dash mount it is a cleaner look, and when you are not using it snap on the cover and it just about disappears. Plus there are no ext wires to deal with on the dash mount.
Nice upgrade from HD. When I bought the 665 I wired it myself. The only way I could hear a phone call on my bike would be to pull over and kill the engine. Nice to know when someone is calling though. I can see when my kids are calling for money or the wife is wanting to tell me about her shopping extravaganza. Also nice that I have an excuse for not answering.
I have a Ultra that I had the GPS on the handlebar and this winter I removed my inner fairing to paint and installed the fairing mount. The fairing mount looks neat but I did like the GPS somewhat better on the handlebar mount. With the GPS on the handlebar it is easily adjusted for angle and glare. I own a CVO Roadglide and it came with mount on handlebar with really good looking chrome mount and wiring routed through handle bar. One thing you may consider is the Garmin 665. Has everything the 660 has plus xm radio, weather and traffic. The xm subscription is a little pricey but for someone like myself that does a lot of cross country touring the radar gives me confidence in riding into rain that sometimes may be worse that you may think... It might even have hail in it. I hate riding in a hot rain suit in summer thinking I might get into rain and the rain never be there or get into rain then stop and try to find a place to put a rain suit on after you have been soaked. I usually always lead the group and they are amazed how I can ride right up to the edge of a storm, stop, and suit up.
