Changing handlebars?
I'm tempted to try changing them out myself, just don't know if I want to go thru all that agravation with the internal wired bars!
Happy Thanksgiving to all!
THe "estimated" labor cost for my bike is $860 and I would imagine that parts will be in the $400-$500 range.
With the CVO bikes, the hydraulic clutch and brake (braided steel) lines
is also another added expense over a regular bike.
Even if it's $1700 it HAS to be done.
One 400 miles ride and my back, between my shoulders was killing me.
As my wife claims, I'm in the top 5% of the riding population. basically due to the fact that I'm 6'-2".
That, combined with the fact that I sit "high" in the saddle due to my being long-torosed, AND the "Hammock" seat that is used on the S/E puts my hands farther away from the grips.
I realized the problem the first time I sat on the bike but I assumed (incorrectly of course) that I could/would adjust to the bars.
After 13 years and nearly 80,000 miles with "pullbacks" on my 2000 Ultra I had obviously forgotten why I had those bars installed on that bike.
As an aside, I may increase my final bill a bit IF H-D makes an oil temperature gage with the matching face of the other gages on my bike.
Best time to do this as they have to take the outer fairing off to do the bars.
Happy "Turkey Day"!
Man, is it another beautiful, sunny day here in S/E Michigan.
Do you still have the stock risers from your CVO RK?
I have a 2012 ultra. I recently switched to the tall boy bars from HD. You dont have to lengthen anything to run them. They might solve your problem.
Around here a lot of the dealers are offering deals on Bars and performance upgrades. Half off on labor just to keep guys working during the seasonal slow down. Check that out. I'm using an Independent, He retired from the place that charges me twice as much.
I took my bike in on 11/21/12 and they called me about two weeks saying the bike was ready so I went and picked it up today!
That was fine with me as I had to move some stuff around to get it into the garage and the weather has been mostly crappy anyways.
I went with the W.O. 577's and I think this may be the most comfortable bars/bike that I have ever owned.
THe sit just a tad lower than my shoulders and come far enough back that I can easily reach tem and my elbows are in a comfortable, relaxed position.
H-D should make these an option, especially on the CVO bikes.
Once I get a chance to put some miles on the bike I'll post another update.
