I had a clunk in the front end so I checked out the pre-load on the forks, could not find anything wrong so I put 'er back together. When I tightened the last pinch bolt on the triple tree it twisted off. A hardened bolt that broke at 30 ft/lb. (A good lesson on replacing any critical bolt or nut.)
So I tore it back down. I had a NOS FXWG upper triple tree and found a like new lower on the bay. I replaced the bearing cups and races. The cups were worn bad and that was something I should have done in the first place. Anyway it's back together. I am waiting for a few brackets and I will start re-wiring it tomorrow.
I also put Progressive 11.5" 444s on the back and put a Progressive springs in the front tubes. So I hope to be up with it soon. At least my Lowrider got some use since I have neglected it since I first finished the shovel. That is if you are ever finished.
Odd how that can happen. Tearing down my 84 FLHS last year and the clamping bolt head snapped off with no more than 15 ft lbs. was able to drill it out luckily.
