ok its a 73 fx pulled it out of a barn. runs awesome however the front pushrod leaks really bad. i reseated the seal looks like neoiprene on top o ring middle and cork bottom..... still leaks ant ideas? the former owner said to run 90w gear oil however its foaming bad and it is the cheap stuff just wanted to see if the bike would run?? it does so any help would be really aapprecieated thanks and i also stretched the cover spring
Time for new seals. How long was it sitting? seals dry out. I like cork where I can use it and have had good luck using it on my pans and early shovels; others prefer the newer stuff.
Take a look at the J&P catalog. tghey carry both types.
Oh....and welcome to the forum...and post up some pics of the bike please.
You never NEVER run gear oil in the motor. You should be running 60 or 70 weight motor oil in a hot climate. The transmission takes the same weight oil as the motor but you can use gear oil in the transmission without a problem.

the piston rings from all the sitting and damp weather in your part of the country has filmed rust in the cast iron bores of the cylinders sooo - drain the gear oil out of the engine re fill with 60 w motorcycle oil not airplane oil -
drive it like a humanbeing for 20 min at a time giving it 1/2 hour in between to cool down maybe 5 or 6 times - drain the oil again - re fill 60W - then ride it again 1/2 throttle only for 45 min let it cool 45 min and then re start and see what it runs like and if it still smokes
FWIW that sure looks like a DNA springer.
be very careful and do a thorough inspection before each ride...
Or if Not DNA, Have some fun cause it looks pretty Neat...
Back to the oil leak it's still there. I'm using 60w amsoil. Replaced my oil pressure gauge with a HD 82-later evo gauge cause the counter boy said it would work. Not sure if he's right I have zero oil pressure on the new gauge and the leak subsided a little. Do I have a blockage some where? Creating too much pressure on that top seal? Any help would be appreciated thanks guys
